Public confidence in Illinois government has been so shaken by the December 9 arrest of Governor Rod Blagojevich on federal corruption charges, that anything short of a special election to fill the United States Senate seat of President-Elect Barack Obama is unacceptable, according to Senator Tim Bivins.
“Lawmakers were called back to the Capitol to deal with a situation that resulted from the Governor allegedly trying to sell the United States Senate seat to the highest bidder,” Senator Bivins said. “The best way to address this situation is removing the Governor from the process and allowing the public to fill the seat in a special election. We need to get this done before we leave Springfield.”" /> Skip to Main Content
