Illinois voters will not be given a voice in recalling the Governor and other elected officials, according to Senator Tim Bivins.
After months of delays by Senate Democrat leaders, a vote was finally taken May 1 on Senate Joint Resolution Constitutional Amendment (SJRCA) 70 – a measure to place a recall referendum on the November ballot. All Republican senators supported the measure, but SJRCA 70 fell three votes short of passage.
The defeat ended a busy week in the Senate, which also included the successful blocking of an effort to raise the state income tax, bipartisan ethics reforms, an indication by the Governor’s office that some of long-awaited agriculture funding might be forthcoming, and a call by Senate Republicans to provide much-needed dollars to deal with road maintenance cost overruns from the winter." /> Skip to Main Content
