High school seniors planning to study agriculture in college are being encouraged to apply for $2,500 scholarships that will be awarded this spring through the state’s Excellence in Agriculture Scholarship Program, according to Senator Tim Bivins.

Applications for the program, which is administered by the Illinois State Treasurer’s Office are available on the Treasurer’s Web site ( http://www.treasurer.il.gov/), at schools and local Farm Bureaus. Applications must be postmarked on or before May 15.

All high school seniors with Illinois residency can apply for these scholarships. To be eligible, students must have a 2.75 minimum grade point average during the 2007-2008 school year, be accepted at an accredited institute of higher education in Illinois by May 15, and plan to pursue an agriculture-related major.
